The Toronto Blue Jays have won their first playoff series of the season, and in the process swept the Baltimore Orioles in a three game series at Camden Yards. On Wednesday afternoon, the Blue Jays beat the Orioles 5-2, after beating them 7-2 on Monday and 8-7 on Tuesday.
A major reason for the sweep was because of the hitting prowess of Randal Grichuk of Rosenberg, Texas. The former St. Louis Cardinals outfielder is having the hottest streak of his Major League Baseball career. In his last five games, Grichuk has recorded two hits in each of them. He has 10 hits in 22 at bats for a marvelous batting average of .455 during that stretch. Grichuk also has two doubles, five home runs, and 13 runs batted in since August 15 as well.
On the season, Grichuk is batting .344 with six home runs and 15 runs batted in. During 64 at bats, he has 12 runs scored, 22 hits, two doubles, six walks, a .400 on base percentage, .656 slugging percentage, and 42 total bases. It should be noted that Grichuk has never once reached .300 for a season when it comes to batting average. His previous career high came with the Cardinals in 2015 when he batted .276.
Due to the fact there are now 16 teams making the playoffs in 2020, the Blue Jays are still in playoff contention even though they are one game back of .500 at 10 wins and 11 losses. They are half a game back of the Orioles for a playoff spot in the American League.
