According to the Canadian Press on Tuesday, the Toronto Blue Jays have signed relief pitcher Chad Green to a two-year deal worth $8.5 million. The Blue Jays become Green’s second Major League Baseball team following the last seven seasons with the New York Yankees.
In 2022, Green had a record of one win and one loss in 14 games with an earned run average of 3.00. He had one save, three holds, and 16 strikeouts. Green gave up 13 hits, five earned runs, five walks, and one home run in 15 innings of work. Green also had a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 1.20. Green’s win last season came in a 5-3 Yankees win over the Detroit Tigers on April 20. Green’s save came in a 3-2 Yankees win over the Blue Jays on May 2. Green’s holds came in a 4-2 Yankees win over the Boston Red Sox on April 9, in a 3-0 Yankees win over the Blue Jays on April 14, and in a 6-2 Yankees win over the Baltimore Orioles on May 16.
Green only pitched 15 innings last season because of Tommy John Surgery in June. He is expected to return around the summer. Green will join a Blue Jays bullpen that includes closer Jordan Romano of Markham, Ontario, Erik Swanson, Tim Mayza, Anthony Bass, Yimi Garcia, Adam Cimber, Trent Thornton, Zach Pop of Brampton, Ontario, and Drew Hutchinson.
