The New York Rangers signed goaltender James Reimer of Morweena, Manitoba on Sunday according to nhl.com. The terms of the deal are for one year and worth $850,000.
The Rangers are the ninth National Hockey League team Reimer has played for. He was previously with the Toronto Maple Leafs for six seasons from 2010 to 2016, the San Jose Sharks for three seasons (2016, and 2021 to 2023), the Florida Panthers for three seasons from 2016 to 2019, the Carolina Hurricanes for two seasons from 2019 to 2021, the Detroit Red Wings for one season from 2023 to 2024, the Anaheim Ducks and Buffalo Sabres during the 2024 to 2025 season, and the Ottawa Senators during the 2025 to 2026 season.
With the Senators in 2025-26, Reimer had a record of seven wins, four regulation losses and two losses in extra time. He had a goals against average of 2.42, save percentage of .886 and one shutout. The shutout came on March 9 in a 2-0 Senators win over the Vancouver Canucks. Reimer made 16 saves.
The Rangers have been dealing with injuries to their goaltenders to start the season. Joonas Korpisalo has not played this season because of a lower body injury suffered before the season started. Then on October 9, Igor Shesterkin suffered a season ending knee injury against the Washington Capitals.
The Rangers are currently second in the Metropolitan Division with 15 points. They are five points back of the Carolina Hurricanes.
