The Toronto Blue Jays set a franchise record for most runs in a game with 28 on Friday. At Fenway Park in Boston, the Blue Jays beat the Boston Red Sox 28-5.
The Blue Jays scored one run in the first inning, two runs in the second inning, seven runs in the third inning, four runs in the fourth inning, 11 runs in the fifth inning, two runs in the sixth inning, and one run in the ninth inning. The previous record for most runs in a Blue Jays game was 24 runs in a 24-10 Blue Jays win over the Baltimore Orioles on June 26, 1978.
It was a phenomenal game for Blue Jays left fielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. who had six hits. He tied the Blue Jays franchise record for most hits in a game. Frank Catalanotto had six hits for the Blue Jays in the second game of a doubleheader on May 1, 2004 in a 10-6 Toronto win over the Chicago White Sox.
The Blue Jays also got a memorable hit from Raimel Tapia. The Blue Jays outfielder became the second Blue Jays player all-time to hit an inside the park grand slam. The first was Junior Felix on June 2, 1989 in a 7-2 Blue Jays win over the Red Sox.
