The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Carson Soucy of Viking, Alberta according to Ryan Long of Pro Hockey Rumors on Tuesday. The terms of the contract are one year and worth $1.5 million.
Soucy is joining his sixth National Hockey League franchise. He previously played three seasons with the Minnesota Wild (2017 to 2021), two seasons with the Seattle Kraken (2021 to 2023), two seasons with the Vancouver Canucks (2023 to 2025), two seasons with the New York Rangers (2025 to 2026), and one season with the New York Islanders (2026).
This past season in 2025-26, Soucy shared his time with the Rangers and Islanders. He had five goals and seven assists for 12 points in 76 games. He was a -6 with 38 penalty minutes, 62 shots on goal, 91 blocked shots, 105 hits, 20 takeaways and 77 giveaways.
Soucy has been known throughout his National Hockey League career as a defensive-minded defenseman. He played two seasons with the Spruce Grove Saints in the Alberta Junior Hockey League before choosing the National Collegiate Athletic Association route where Soucy played for four seasons with the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs from 2013 to 2017. Soucy was selected in the fifth round, 137th overall by the Wild in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. He is the only Canadian native to make the NHL from the fifth round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
