Brett Lauther returns to the Roughriders

Brett Lauther of Truro, Nova Scotia is returning to the Saskatchewan Roughriders according to 3downnation.com on Wednesday. Lauther was traded from the Ottawa Redblacks to the Roughriders for a fifth round pick in the 2027 Canadian Football League Draft. Lauther was previously with the Roughriders for seven seasons from 2018 to 2025 and was on the Roughriders team that won the Grey Cup last year.

In addition to playing with Roughriders, Lauther was with the Hamilton Roughriders in 2013, and the Ottawa Redblacks in 2026. This season in the nation’s capital, Lauther made 32 of 34 field goals and 22 of 23 converts.

It has been a disastrous season for the Redblacks as they are the worst team in the CFL and have a record of zero wins and 14 losses. According to 3downnation.com, no team in CFL history has gone winless for an entire season. With four games left, the Redblacks have two games left against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and one game each against the Toronto Argonauts and British Columbia Lions.

In Saskatchewan, the Roughriders have used Alex Hale and Dawson Hodge of Coquitlam, British Columbia at the kicker position in 2026. Hodge made all five field goal attempts and one convert in two games.

In 115 games with the Roughriders previously, Lauther made 295 field goals in 346 attempts for a field goal percentage of 85.3%. He also made 200 converts.

The Roughriders are in second place in the West Division at eight wins and six losses. They next host the Calgary Stampeders on Friday.
