The Ottawa Senators have named defenseman Thomas Chabot of Saint-Marie, Quebec the seventh Canadian captain in Senators franchise history on Tuesday according to TSN. Chabot has been with the Senators the last decade and was a National Hockey League All-Star during the 2018-19 season.
In 2025-26, Chabot had seven goals and 24 assists for 31 points. He was a +6 with 22 penalty minutes, seven power-play points, two shorthanded points, 99 shots on goal, 111 blocked shots, 36 hits, 25 takeaways and 59 giveaways.
Both of Chabot’s shorthanded points this past season came in Senators wins. He had one shorthanded goal and one shorthanded assist. The shorthanded assist came in a 4-3 Senators win over the Calgary Flames on October 30. Chabot set up Lars Eller at 7:37 of the first period and tied the game at one at the time. The shorthanded goal came in a 2-0 Senators win over the Anaheim Ducks. Chabot scored from Shane Pinto at 9:27 of the second period to complete the scoring.
In Chabot’s career with the Senators, he has 78 goals and 257 assists for 335 points in 5689 games. He is a -53 with 270 penalty minutes, 97 power-play points, three shorthanded points, five game-winning goals, 1320 shots on goal, 893 blocked shots, 553 hits, 247 takeaways and 605 giveaways.
The first Canadian captain on the Senators was Laurie Boschman of Major, Saskatchewan (1992-93). He was followed by Gord Dineen of Quebec City, Quebec (1993-94), Mark Lamb of Ponteix, Saskatchewan (1993-94), Brad Shaw of Cambridge, Ontario (1993-94), Randy Cunneyworth of Etobicoke, Ontario (1994-98), and Jason Spezza of Toronto, Ontario (2013-14).
