
Bishop’s University Gaiters have won the 2015 Canadian University Women’s Ice Hockey Championship. On Sunday from Woolwich Memorial Centre in Elmira, Ontario (home of the University of Waterloo), the Gaiters defeated the University of Waterloo Warriors 3-0 in the championship final. In the process, the Gaiters won the Golden Path Trophy.
The Gaiters were led by goaltender Ericka Gagnon of Quebec City, Quebec. She made 27 saves for the shutout. Gagnon made three saves in the first period, 10 saves in the second period, and 14 saves in the third period. Carly Orth of Bolton, Ontario and Leah Herrfort of Palmerston, Ontario led the Warriors with four shots on goal each.
Bishop’s was led in scoring by centre Gabrielle Santerre of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec. Santerre recorded a point on all three Gaiters goals as she had one goal and two assists. Her goal was the game-winning goal at 11:29 of the second period which put the Gaiters up 1-0 at the time. Daphne Boutin of Longueuil, Quebec and Angelique Page of Ottawa, Ontario picked up the assists. The other two Gaiters goal scorers were Gabrielle Rousseau of Sherbrooke, Quebec and Maude Pepin of Pont-Rouge, Quebec.
This was the first Canadian University Women’s Ice Hockey Championship for the Gaiters. It was also the first time the Canadian University Women’s Ice Hockey Championship was hosted by Waterloo.
