Canada defeats Bulgaria in 2026 Women’s Volleyball Nations League

Team Canada has improved to a record of four wins and two losses at the 2026 Women’s Volleyball Nations League in Bangkok, Thailand on Friday. In a four set thriller, Canada defeated Bulgaria 25-17, 23-25, 25-23, 28-26. The last three sets were extremely tight, with the Canadians winning the last two sets to take the match after Canada and Bulgaria won one set apiece.

We are once again witnessing excellence from opposite Kiera Van Ryk of New Westminster, British Columbia. On Friday, the Canadian reached a milestone. She recorded her 1000th career VNL point, and now has 1016 VNL points in her career. In Canada’s win over Bulgaria, Van Ryk led Canada with 19 points (18 attack poins and one block point).

Van Ryk was one of five Canadians to reach double digits in points. The other four players were captain and middle blocker Emily Maglio of Coquitlam, British Columbia with 16 points (six attack points, six blocked points and four aces), opposite hitter Alexa Gray of Lethbridge, Alberta with 14 points (13 attack points and one blocked point), middle blocker Nyadholi Thokbuom of Calgary, Alberta with 13 points (11 attack points. one ace and one blocked point), and opposite hitter Abby Guezen of Sherwood Park, Alberta with 11 points (seven attack points and four block points).

Canada improves to seventh place in the overall standings. They will next place Thailand on Saturday.
