The baseball from 2022 Canada Summer Games will be going into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in St. Mary’s, Ontario. Why? Well, because on Monday at the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara Falls, Ontario, history was made.

For the first time ever, a female participated in the men’s baseball competition. Jenna Lee of St. John’s, Newfoundland pitched an inning and a third, and gave up five runs in a 17-7 Team Newfoundland loss to Team Alberta. It has been a strong tournament offensively for Alberta to date. They have won their first three games and have outscored their opponents 41-18.

Team Alberta will get a huge test on Tuesday as they will face Team Quebec. Both teams are undefeated with identical records of three wins and zero losses. Quebec has won with strong pitching as they have only given up six runs in three games.

Lee’s magnificent story in the Canada Summer Games baseball tournament has overshadowed the ridiculousness of the playoff structure in the overall tournament itself. It is absurd that there is a pool of four teams and a pool of six teams. What is even more bizarre, is that the pool winners play against each other in one of two semifinal games.
