Annamay Oldershaw named Canada’s Chef de Mission for 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games

Annaymay Oldershaw of Toronto, Ontario was named the Chef de Mission for Canada at the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne, Switzerland on Thursday. Oldershaw was previously Annamay Pierse before marrying Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Mark Oldershaw of Burlington, Ontario, who won a bronze medal in the men’s 1000 metre canoeing at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

As an athlete, Annamay Oldershaw was a high performance swimmer. Her greatest international accomplishment was winning a silver medal in the women’s 200 metre breaststroke at the 2009 World Aquatics Championships in Rome. She also won a bronze medal in the women’s 4×100 metre medley at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India with Julia Wilkinson of Stratford, Ontario, Audrey Lacroix of Pont-Rouge, Quebec and Victoria Poon of Montreal, Quebec.

This will be the third Winter Youth Olympic Games. It will take place from January 9-22. The first Winter Youth Olympic Games were in Innsbruck, Austria in 2012 and the second was in 2016 in Lillehammer, Norway. At the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games, Canada won two gold medals as Michael Ciccarelli of Ancaster, Ontario won the gold medal in boys slopestyle snowboarding and Audrey McManiman of Val St-Come, Quebec won the gold medal in girls slopestyle snowboarding. At the 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games, Canada won three gold medals as Canada won gold in mixed team curling, Brooke Apshkrum won gold in girls luge and Reece Howden of Cultus Lake, British Columbia won gold in boys ski cross.
