With the Canadian sports spotlight squarely on Alphonso Davies of Edmonton, Alberta on Saturday, the Bayern Munich winger delivered with flying colours. In a 5-2 Bayern Munich win over Eintracht Frankfurt in Bundesliga action, Davies recorded one goal and one assist.
Davies recorded his assist on a goal by Thomas Mueller of Weilheim in Oberbayern, Germany in the 41st minute, which put Bayern Munich up 2-0 at the time. Davies then scored his second goal of the 2019-20 Bundesliga season and third Bundesliga goal of his career with a brilliant goal which put Bayern Munich up 4-2.
In the 4-2 Bayern Munich marker, Davies exemplified exceptional control of the soccer ball past midfield and towards the net. He temporarily gave up the soccer ball to Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Gelson Fernandes, but Fernandes gave the ball right back to Davies who then found the back of the net.
Davies’ other goal this season came in a 6-1 Bayern Munich win over FS Mainz 05 on August 31, 2019. His first Bundesliga goal came on March 17, 2019 in a 6-0 Bayern Munich win over FS Mainz 05.
This was only the second time in Davies’s Bundesliga career that he recorded more than one goal or one assist in a single game. He previously had two assists in a 3-1 Bayern Munich win over Tottenham Hotspur on December 11, 2019 in Champions League action. Davies now has nine assists for Bayern Munich this season.
Bayern Munich continues to lead the Bundesliga with a record of 19 wins, four losses and four draws for 61 points. They have four more points than second place Borussia Dortmund, which has 57 points. Bayern Munich plays Borussia Dortmund in an intriguing Bundesliga matchup on Tuesday.
