All three Canadian NHL teams left win on same day of 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs

There are three Canadian teams left in the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs, and all three Canadian teams came away with a win on Friday. The Montreal Canadiens trounced the Philadelphia Flyers 5-0 in Toronto, the Calgary Flames beat the Dallas Stars 2-0 in Edmonton, and the Vancouver Canucks beat the St. Louis Blues 4-3 in overtime in Edmonton.

In the Canadiens series with the Flyers, Canadian Olympic gold medalist Carey Price of Anahim Lake, British Columbia made 30 saves for the shutout. Price made six saves in the first period, 15 saves in the second period and nine saves in the third period. It was Price’s sixth shutout of his National Hockey League playoff career and second of the 2019-20 playoffs. He also blanked the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-0 on August 7 in game four of the qualification round. Price won a gold medal for Canada at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. Offensively for Montreal, the Canadiens got three assists from Max Domi of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and two assists from Victor Mete of Woodbridge, Ontario. The Canadiens and Flyers are now tied at one game apiece in the Eastern Conference first round playoff series.

In the Flames series win over the Stars, Cam Talbot of Caledonia, Ontario made 35 saves. He made eight saves in the first period, 16 saves in the second period and 11 saves in the third period. With the win, the Flames now lead the Stars two games to one in their first round series. This was Talbot’s fourth career playoff shutout and second in the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. He previously blanked the Winnipeg Jets 4-0 on August 6. Calgary now leads Dallas two games to one.

In the Canucks win over the Blues, Bo Horvat of London, Ontario had a magnificent game. He scored a highlight reel goal in the first period, and then scored the overtime winner on a breakaway at 5:55 of the extra period. With the win, the Canucks lead the defending Stanley Cup champions two games to none.

In the New York Islanders 5-2 win over the Washington Capitals in Toronto, Jean-Gabriel Pageau of Ottawa, Ontario had two assists. The Islanders now lead that series 2-0.
