Alexis Lafreniere of Saint-Eustache, Quebec, the consensus first overall pick, was selected first overall in the 2020 National Hockey League Draft on Tuesday by the New York Rangers according to Chris Peters of ESPN. Lafreniere was the Canadian Hockey League player of the year, and led the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in scoring with 112 points (35 goals and 77 assists) while playing for the Rimouski Oceanic.
It was an excellent first round for Canadian hockey as 19 Canadians were selected in the first round.
