Alexis Lafreniere records third career NHL hat trick

Alexis Lafreniere of St-Eustache, Quebec recorded his third career National Hockey League hat trick on Tuesday. He accomplished the feat in a 5-2 Rangers win over the New York Islanders at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York.

Lafreniere put the Rangers up 2-0 at the 25 second mark of the second period. He scored from Mika Zibanejad and defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov. Lafreniere then put the Rangers up 4-2 with one minute and 38 seconds left in the third period into an empty net. J.T. Miller and Zibanejad had the assists. Lafreniere then closed out the scoring 32 seconds later with one minute and six seconds left in the game also into an empty net. Defensemen Gavrikov and Adam Fox had the assists.

Lafreniere added an assist as he helped set up Oliver Bjorkstrand at 6:40 of the first period. Lafreniere’s first NHL hat trick came on March 30, 2024 in an 8-5 Rangers win over the Arizona Coyotes. Lafreniere’s second hat trick came on March 10, 2026 in a 4-0 Rangers win over the Calgary Flames.

For the season, Lafreniere has three goals and two assists for five points in five games. He is a +5 with two penalty minutes, 11 shots on goal, three faceoff wins, two blocked shots, eighth hits, three takeaways, and eight giveaways.

Lafreniere’s two blocked shots came in the Rangers’s last two wins–a 4-2 Rangers win over the Mammoth on October 4 and last night against the Islanders. Lafreniere’s assist also came against the Mammoth. Lafreniere set up Gabriel Perreault of Sherbrooke, Quebec at 3:15 of the third period which put the Rangers up 2-1 at the time.
