
Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Abigail Strate of Calgary, Alberta won the bronze medal in women’s ski jumping in a World Cup event in Hinterzarten, Germany on Saturday. For Strate, who won placed third in the mixed team ski jumping event at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, it was her first medal in her World Cup career. The World Cup in Hinterzarten was 111 metres.
Strate posted a score of 236.3 points. Katharina Althaus of Germany won the gold medal with 258.8 points. Ema Klinec of Slovenia won the silver medal with 237.6 points. Strate reached the podium by 2.6 points over Sara Takanashi of Japan, who posted a score of 233.7 points.
Strate is now 10th in the Women’s World Cup ski jumping standings with 382 points. Eva Pinkelnig of Austria leads with 1036 points.
This was the second time this season a Canadian female ski jumper landed on the podium in a World Cup event. Alexandria Loutitt of Calgary won a gold medal in a World Cup women’s ski jumping event in Zao, Japan on January 13. Loutitt was also part of the Canadian team that won a mixed bronze medal at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. The bronze medal for Strate will give her confidence as she prepares for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Cortina d’Ampezzo.
