Jennifer Abel heads into 2018 FINA Diving World Series event in Montreal with momentum

Jennifer Abel of Montreal, Quebec is heading into the 2018 FINA Diving World Series event this weekend in Montreal with a significant amount of momentum. Abel has won three bronze medals in two FINA Diving World Series events with Olympic status so far this year and earlier this month won the gold medal in the women’s 3m springboard at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia. 

Abel won her first World Series bronze medal of the season on March 9 in Beijing, China. Abel and Melissa Citrini-Beaulieu of Saint-Constant, Quebec placed third with 292.74 points in the women’s three metre synchronized springboard diving competition. Yiwen Chen and Han Wang of China won the gold medal with 336.12 points. Esther Qin and Anabelle Smith of Australia won the silver medal with 297.6 points. Abel and Citrini-Beaulieu reached the podium by 1.74 points over fourth place finishers Kristina Ilinykh and Nadezhda Bazhina of Russia.

Abel went on to win a bronze in the women’s three metre springboard diving competition on March 10 in Beijing. Abel had 354.3 points. Tingmao Shi of China won gold with 392.1 points. Wang won silver with 380.4 points. Abel reached the podium by 26.7 points over Qin, who finished in fourth place with a score of 327.6 points.

Then in Fuji, Japan on March 17, Abel and Citrini-Beaulieu returned to the podium with a bronze in the women’s three metre synchronized springboard diving event. They reached the podium by the slimmest of margins. Their overall score of 287.43 points was three one hundredths of a point more than fourth place finishers Ilinykh and Bazhina. Shi and Yani Chang of China won gold with 319.8 points and Qin and Georgia Sheehan of Australia won the silver medal with 294.6 points.
