Zeke Thurston of Big Valley, Alberta continues to roll at the 2024 Calgary Stampede. On Sunday in the saddle bronc, Thurston posted a score of 88.5 points, the highest score of the day. He also won the Pool A standings with $15,500.
Lefty Holman of Visalia, California was in second place in the saddle bronc on Sunday with a score of 87 points. Parker Fleet of Axtell, Texas was in third place with 86 points. In the Pool A standings which completed on July 7, Layton Green also advanced to Championship Sunday by finishing in fourth place in the saddle bronc with $9666.67.
In the bull riding, Wyatt Gleeson of Sundre, Alberta had the best score on Sunday of 86.5 points. Hayes Weight of Goshen, Utah was in second place with a score of 86 points. Ashton Sahli of Red Deer, Alberta and Maverick Smith of Mountain Grove, Missouri were tied for third place with a score of 82.5 points. Nick Tetz of Calgary, Alberta won the Pool A standings in the bull riding with $26,700. Gleeson was tied for second, alongside Hayes Weight of Goshen, Utah, with $12,900. Tetz and Gleeson both advance.
In the tie down roping, Kyle Lucas of Carstairs, Alberta had the third fastest time on Sunday. He was at 8.1 seconds. Shad Mayfield of Clovis, New Mexico had the fastest time of 6.4 seconds. Tuf Cooper of Decatur, Texas had the second fastest time of 7.4 seconds. In the Pool A standings, Logan Bird of Nanton, Alberta was the lone Canadian to advance as he finished in third with $7875.
In the steer wrestling, Scott Guenthner of Provost, Alberta had a third place time of 5.1 seconds. Jacob Talley of Keatchie, Louisiana had a time of 4.5 seconds for the fastest Sunday time. Justin Shaffer of Hico, Texas had the second fastest time of five seconds. In the aggregate standings, Stephen Culling of Fort St. John, British Columbia, and Guenther both advanced to Championship Sunday. Culling was second with $11,250, and Guenthner was fourth with $10,000.
Also in ladies barrel racing, Taylor Manning of Yellowhead County, Alberta finished in third place on Sunday with a time of 17.36 seconds. Emily Beisel of Weatherford, Oklahoma had the fastest time of 17.1 seconds and Ashley Castleberry of Montgomery, Texas had the second fastest time of 17.33 seconds.
In the Rangeland Derby, the chuckwagon star is Jason Glass of High River, Alberta. Glass had the fastest time on Wednesday, with a time of 1:10.78. He has the fastest aggregate time of 3:34.17.
