Yukon delivered an upset a notable victory on Day Three of the 2023 Tim Hortons Brier from London, Ontario. The Yukon team skipped by Thomas Scoffin of Whitehorse defeated British Columbia’s Jacques Gauthier 10-8. For Yukon, this was their first win at the Brier over a non-Maritime province since Jon Solberg of Whitehorse upset Manitoba’s Mike McEwen 7-6 at the 2019 Tim Hortons Brier in Brandon, Manitoba.

The win over Manitoba was one of three wins for Solberg in 2019 as he also beat Newfoundland and Labrador 8-4 and Prince Edward Island 8-7. Since 2020, Yukon has won only one other game at the Brier, and that was a 13-7 win over Prince Edward Island at the 2022 Tim Hortons Brier in Lethbridge. The Yukon skip last year was also Scoffin.

In the Yukon win over British Columbia on Sunday, it was an unbelievable comeback for the territory. They were once down 6-1 after five ends. That is when Yukon scored three points in the sixth end and stole three points in the seventh end to take a 7-6 lead. After British Columbia took an 8-7 lead after eight ends, Yukon regained the 9-8 lead after nine ends and stole one point in the 10th end for the two-point win.

Three teams are undefeated after Sunday. They are Alberta’s Kevin Koe (3-0), Team Wildcard One Brendan Bottcher (3-0), and Manitoba’s Matt Dunstone (2-0).
