Valerie Grenier wins World Cup women’s giant slalom bronze medal in Andorra

Valerie Grenier of Ottawa, Ontario won a women’s World Cup giant slalom bronze medal in Grandvalira Soldeu-El Tarter, Andorra on Sunday. For Grenier, it was her second career World Cup alpine skiing medal.

Grenier posted a third place time of 1:56.08. Mikaela Shiffrin of the United States won the gold medal with a first place time of 1:55.88. Thea Louise Stjernesund of Norway won the silver medal with a second place time of 1:55.94. Grenier reached the podium by 0.26 seconds over Lara Gut-Behrami of Switzerland, who had a fourth place time of 1:56.34.

Grenier had a first run time of 57.22 seconds, which was the second fastest time in the field. Only Shiffrin was faster at 56.6 seconds. In the second run, Grenier had the sixth fastest time of 58.86 seconds.

This was the final World Cup women’s giant slalom of the season. Grenier finished in seventh place in the World Cup women’s giant slalom standings with 354 points. Shiffrin was the World Cup women’s giant slalom champion with 800 points.

Grenier previously won a World Cup women’s giant slalom gold medal on January 7, 2023 in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia. The bronze medal for Grenier in Andorra will give her confidence as she prepares for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
