The University of Victoria Vikes have won the 2024 USport Women’s Field Hockey Championship. On Sunday, the Vikes won the gold medal game by defeating the York University Lions 1-0 in the gold medal game in Toronto, Ontario.

The Vikes’s lone goal scorer was Anni Kleinschmidt, who scored in the second minute for the game’s only goal. It was actually an outstanding defensive performance by Victoria as they only limited York to one shot on goal in the entire game. The lone player on York who had a shot on goal was Natalie Brown of West Vancouver, British Columbia. However, Vikes goalkeeper Anais Chace of Victoria, British Columbia made the shoulder save to collect the shutout.

This is the 17th national title for the Vikes. They previously won in 1984, 1987, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1997, 2000, 2002, 2008, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024. Due to the fact there was no USport Women’s Field Hockey Championship in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic, the Vikes have now actually won six straight national championships.

The Vikes won six of eight games in Canada West action. The only team that beat them were the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds, who beat the Vikes twice. Then at the National Field Hockey Championship, the Vikes won all three of their round robin games leading up to the final by a combined score of 10-0.
