Tyler Toffoli named NHL first star of the week from Jan. 18 to Jan. 24

According to Ken MacMillan of Fansided on Monday, Montreal Canadiens right winger Tyler Toffoli of Scarborough, Ontario was named the National Hockey League First Star of the Week from January 18-24, 2021. In four games, Toffoli notched five goals and three assists for eight points.

Toffoli began his week with one assist in a 3-1 Canadiens win over the Edmonton Oilers on January 18. That was followed by a hat trick in a 6-5 Canadiens shootout loss to the Vancouver Canucks on January 20. Toffoli then had two goals and one assist for three points in a 7-3 Canadiens win over the Canucks on January 21, and had one assist in a 5-2 Canadiens win over the Canucks on January 23.

Also during the week, Toffoli was a +6 with two penalty minutes, two power play points, two shorthanded points, 15 shots on goal, five hits, two blocked shots, and two faceoff wins. Toffoli’s two shorthanded points came in the 7-3 Canadiens win over the Canucks. Toffoli had a shorthanded assist on a goal by Joel Armia at 5:27 of the first period which put the Canadiens up 2-1, and then Toffoli scored shorthanded from Armia at 1:13 of the second period which put the Canadiens up 3-2.

This was Toffoli’s fourth career National Hockey League hat trick. He previously scored thrice in a game thrice with the Los Angeles Kings. He had a hat trick on February 12, 2015, in a 5-3 Kings win over the Calgary Flames, on December 28, 2015, in a 5-0 Kings win over the Vancouver Canucks, and on February 15, 2020, in a 3-1 Kings win over the Colorado Avalanche.

On the season, Toffoli has five goals and three assists for eight points. He has a +6 with two penalty minutes, two power play points, two shorthanded points, 20 shots on goal, two faceoff wins, two blocked shots, five hits, three takeaways, and two giveaways.

The Canadiens meanwhile are tied for first place with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the North Division. Each team has 10 points.
