Truro, Nova Scotia will host the 2028 Women’s World Curling Championships according to the Canadian Press on Wednesday. The event will be at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre from March 17-26, 2028.

Truro has hosted two Masters events in the Grand Slam of Curling in the past. In 2015, the events were won by Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Rachel Homan of Ottawa, Ontario on the women’s side and Mike McEwen of Winnipeg, Manitoba on the men’s side. In 2018, the events were won by Olympic gold medalist Anna Hasselborg of Sweden on the women’s side and John Epping of Toronto, Ontario on the men’s side. At the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo, Hasselborg won the gold medal and Homan won the bronze medal. Hasselborg also won the gold medal in women’s curling at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang.

It is interesting that World Curling has officially announced the host site of the 2028 Women’s World Curling Championship before the 2027 Women’s World Curling Championship. According to Devin Heroux of CBC Sports, there are “plans to hold the women’s world championship, slated for mid-March, in the United Arab Emirates,” but nothing has been confirmed.

The 2027 World Men’s Curling Championship will also be in Atlantic Canada, specifically in Saint John, New Brunswick from March 26 to April 4. The 2027 World Men’s Curling Championships and 2027 World Women’s Curling Championships are being expanded from 13 teams to 18 teams.
