The Winnipeg Jets made National Hockey League history on Tuesday. According to Jesse Granger of The Athletic, the Jets were trailing 4-0 to the Montreal Canadiens with two minutes and 39 seconds left in the third period, when they scored four goals in the last 159 seconds and then won the game 5-4 in overtime.

The previous record belonged to the Los Angeles Kings. On November 10, 2007, the Kings were trailing the Dallas Stars 4-0 with seven minutes and 14 seconds left in the third period before winning the game 6-5.

Winnipeg is also the first team this season to be down by four goals in a game and win. The Jets player who started the comeback was rookie defenseman Tyrel Bauer of Calgary, Alberta, who scored his first ever NHL goal. Morgan Barron of Halifax, Nova Scotia scored the next Jets goal with one minute and 57 seconds left in the game. Then Kyle Connor scored two goals in 27 seconds to tie the game at four. Defenseman Dylan Samberg was the overtime hero at 3:30 of the extra period.

Four Canadians had multi-point games for the Jets. Barron and Bauer had one goal and one assist each for two points. Defenseman Dylan DeMelo of London, Ontario and Mark Scheifele of Kitchener, Ontario had two assists each. The win also snapped the Jets’s nine game losing streak.
