One of the three wildcard teams at the 2022 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Thunder Bay, Ontario will not have their skip to begin the tournament. That is because Tracy Fleury tested positive for coronavirus and will not start with the team to begin the Canadian National Women’s Curling Championship. In the meantime, Selena Njegovan will skip Fleury’s team, and her sister-in-law Robyn Njegovan will be the third. Team Fleury plays Team New Brunswick to begin the 2022 Scotties Tournament of Hearts on Friday.

There will be 18 teams in the tournament with two pools of nine teams each. In Pool A, there is New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Northern Ontario, Nunavut, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan, and all three Wildcard teams. In Pool B, there is Alberta, British Columbia, Team Canada, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec and the Yukon.

As the tournament begins, there are some intriguing storylines. British Columbia will be skipped by Mary-Anne Arsenault, the 53-year-old, who won two world championship titles as a second with Colleen Jones. The Wildcard teams will be skipped by Fleury, Chelsea Carey, and Emma Miskew.

Fleury was upset in the Manitoba final by Mackenzie Zacharias, Carey is now skipping a team based out of Saskatchewan after her Alberta-based team disbanded, while Miskew is now skipping Rachel Homan’s team with Homan competing for Canada at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing in mixed doubles with John Morris.
