Three Canadians recorded touchdowns on winning teams in week 21 of the Canadian Football League regular season. They were Winnipeg Blue Bombers wide receiver Brendan O’Leary-Orange of Toronto, Ontario, Montreal Alouettes wide receiver Tyson Philpot of Delta, British Columbia, and Toronto Argonauts wide receiver Dejon Brissett of Mississauga, Ontario.
O’Leary-Orange had two catches for 62 receiving yards for Winnipeg in a 36-13 win over the Calgary Stampeders on Friday. Both catches were for 31 yards. The 31-yard touchdown came 46 seconds into the fourth quarter and gave the Blue Bombers a 25-13 lead at the time. On the season, O’Leary-Orange had six catches for 111 receiving yards and one touchdown. With the win, the Blue Bombers improved to a record of 14 wins and four losses for 28 points.
Philpot had two catches for 16 receiving yards in a 22-20 Alouettes win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Saturday. Philpot’s touchdown catch came one minute and one second into the first quarter to begin the scoring. In 2023, he had 47 catches for 523 receiving yards and five touchdown catches. With the win, the Alouettes improved to a record of 11 wins and seven losses for 22 points.
Brissett had one catch for 61 yards in a 27-22 Argonauts win over the Ottawa Redblacks on Saturday. Brissett’s touchdown came with two minutes left on the first quarter and gave the Argonauts a 14-0 lead. On the season, Brissett had 38 catches for 594 yards and five touchdowns. With the win, the Argonauts improved to a record of 16 wins and two losses for 32 points. They tied the Edmonton Eskimos’s record for points in a season with 32, which was set in 1989.
The CFL playoffs are now set. Calgary will play British Columbia in the Western Semi-Final on November 4, with the winner playing Winnipeg in the Western Final on November 11. Montreal will play Hamilton in the Eastern Semi-Final on November 4, with the winner playing Toronto in the Eastern Final on November 11.
