Three Canadian goaltenders traded at the NHL deadline

There were three Canadian goaltenders traded at the NHL deadline on Tuesday. Michael Hutchinson of Barrie, Ontario was traded from the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Colorado Avalanche, Malcolm Subban of Toronto, Ontario was traded from the Vegas Golden Knights to the Chicago Blackhawks and Louis Domingue of St-Hyacinthe, Quebec was traded from the New Jersey Devils to the Vancouver Canucks according to nhl.com.

Hutchinson was traded from Toronto to Colorado for defenseman Calle Rosen of Vaxjo, Sweden. The Avalanche become Hutchinson’s fourth NHL team. In addition to the Maple Leafs, he has played for the Winnipeg Jets and Florida Panthers. In 15 games with the Maple Leafs in 2019-20, Hutchinson has a record of four wins, nine regulation losses and one loss in extra time. He has a goals against average of 3.36, save percentage of .886 and one shutout. Hutchinson’s shutout this season came in a 3-0 Maple Leafs win over the New York Islanders on January 4.

Rosen has two assists in eight games with the Avalanche. He is a +2 with four penalty minutes, 10 shots on goal, five blocked shots, three hits, two takeaways and five giveaways. Rosen is actually returning to Toronto as he played his first two seasons with the Maple Leafs in 2017-18 and 2018-2019 before being traded to Colorado in the famous Nazem Kadri/Tyson Barrie deal on July 1, 2019.

Vegas traded Subban, prospect Stanislav Demin and a second round draft pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft to Chicago for goaltender Robin Lehner and prospect Martins Dzierkals. Subban had a record of nine wins, seven regulation losses, three losses in extra time, a goals against average of 3.18 and a save percentage of .890. The Blackhawks become Subban’s third NHL team. In addition to the Golden Knights, he has played for the Boston Bruins. Lehner has a record of 16-10-5, goals against average of 3.01 and save percentage of .918 with the Blackhawks this year.

Domingue was traded from the Devils to the Canucks for goaltender Zane McIntyre. Domingue has a record of three wins, eight regulation losses and two losses in extra time, with a goals against average of 3.79 and a save percentage of .882 with the Devils this season. He previously played with the Arizona Coyotes and Tampa Bay Lightning.
