The New York Islanders found a forward that could help them just not in the short term, but long term as well on Monday. In a trade with the Ottawa Senators, the Islanders acquired centre Jean-Gabriel Pageau of Ottawa, Ontario for a conditional first round draft pick in the 2020 National Hockey League Entry Draft, a second round draft pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft and a conditional third round draft pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft according to Rogers Sportsnet.

The conditional first round draft pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft will move to 2021 if the Islanders are guaranteed a top three pick in this year’s draft. The Senators will get the Islanders’ third round draft pick in 2022 if New York wins the 2020 Stanley Cup.

Pageau has 24 goals and 16 assists for 40 points in 60 games with the Senators in 2019-20. He is a +10 with 32 penalty minutes, nine power play points, six shorthanded points, five game winning goals, 135 shots on goal, 542 faceoff wins, 48 blocked shots, 116 hits, 29 takeaways and 24 giveaways. Pageau had played the last eight seasons with the Senators.

After acquiring Pageau, the Islanders signed him to a six year contract worth $30 million. The Islanders are currently in fourth place in the Metropolitan Division with a record of 35 wins, 20 regulation losses and six losses in extra time for 76 points. They currently lead the Carolina Hurricanes by two points for a playoff spot.
