Team Canada’s Rachel Homan of Ottawa, Ontario has won the 2025 Women’s World Curling Championship in Uijeongbu, South Korea. It was the third Women’s World Curling Championship title for Homan as she previously won in 2017 in Beijing, China and in 2024 in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
Homan defeated Switzerland’s Silvana Tirinzoni 7-3 on Sunday. It was a game that was dominated by Homan in the second half of the contest as she outscored Tirinzoni 5-1, including three consecutive stolen points in the eighth and ninth ends. The key shot came in the eighth end. With Canada leading 4-3, Alina Paetz’s shot was too light and Canada stole two points to take a 6-3 lead.
This was the second straight year Homan beat Tirinzoni in the final of the Women’s World Curling Championship. Last year in Sydney, Canada won 7-5 in the final. Tirinzoni has actually been in six straight finals of the Women’s World Curling Championship. Prior to the last two championships where she lost to Canada, Tirinzoni won four straight titles in 2019 in Silkeborg, Denmark, in 2021 in Calgary, Alberta, in 2022 in Prince George, British Columbia, and in 2023 in Sandviken, Sweden. The 2020 Women’s World Curling Championship was supposed to be in Prince George but was cancelled due to Coronavirus.
