Stephen Ames of Vancouver, British Columbia has won the 2024 Mitsubishi Electric Classic in Duluth, Georgia for the third time. He posted a score of -14 and beat Paul Broadhurst of Walsall, England and Doug Barron of Memphis, Tennessee by four strokes.
Ames posted a first round score of one-under-par 71, a second round score of eight-under-par 64, and a third round score of five-under-par 67. On Friday in the first round, Ames had one eagle, five birdies, one bogey and two double bogeys. He eagled the ninth hole, birdied the second, 10th, 14th, 15th, and 18th holes, bogeyed the eighth hole, and double bogeyed the 11th and 16th holes. On Saturday, Ames had eight birdies. He birdied the first, third, fourth, sixth, 12th, 13th, 15th, and 16th holes. On Sunday, Ames had two eagles, three birdies and two bogeys. He eagled the sixth and 13th holes, birdied the first, 14th, and 18th holes, and bogeyed the 15th and 17th holes.
At age 60, this was Ames’s eighth Champions Tour victory. He previously won the 2017 and 2023 Mitsubishi Electric Classic, the 2021 and 2023 Principal Charity Classic in Des Moines, Iowa, the 2023 Trophy Hassan II in Morocco, the 2023 Boeing Classic in Seattle, Washington, and the 2024 Chubb Classic in Naples, Florida.
When Ames won earlier this year in Naples, he posted a score of -13 to beat Rocco Mediate of Greensburg, Pennsylvania by three strokes. Ames has rounds of -5 and -8 in an event that only lasted 36 holes.
