Stephen Ames of Vancouver, British Columbia is the co-leader of the 2022 Senior British Open from Gleneagles in Perthshire, Scotland. Ames shot a first round score of six-under-par and is in a first place tie with American Glen Day of Mobile, Alabama.
Ames had four birdies and one eagle. He birdied the fifth, 13th, 14th, and 18th holes, and eagled the 10th hole.
There are 18 other golfers in contention. At -5 and one stroke back are Americans Jerry Kelly and Kent Jones, Northern Ireland’s Darren Clarke, and England’s Paul Broadhurst. Seven golfers are at -4 and two strokes back of Ames and Day.
