The Dallas Stars have signed defenseman Mark Pysyk of Edmonton, Alberta to a one year contract worth $750,000 according to Rogers Sportsnet. The Stars become Pysyk’s third National Hockey League team. In addition to playing four seasons with the Buffalo Sabres, Pysyk has played the last four seasons with the Florida Panthers.
In 2019-20, Pysyk had nine goals and nine assists for 18 points in 58 games with Florida. He was a +4 with 20 penalty minutes, one game winning goal, 64 shots on goal, three faceoff wins, 38 blocked shots, 47 hits, 26 takeaways, and 15 giveaways. Pysyk had career highs in goals, points, and faceoff wins. The three faceoff wins were the first three he has won in his eight-year NHL career.
Pysyk also registered his first career hat trick this past season. It came in a 5-3 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on February 3.
Pysyk’s game winning goal this past season came in a 4-1 Panthers win over the Detroit Red Wings on January 18. Pysyk had two prior game winning goals in his NHL career, as both came with the Sabres. Pysyk’s first career game winning goal was his second career NHL goal. It came in a 2-1 Sabres win over the Phoenix Coyotes on December 23, 2013. Pysyk then scored the game winning goal for the Sabres on February 24, 2015, in a 4-2 Sabres win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.
