Dallas Stars left winger Mason Marchment of Uxbridge, Ontario collected his second career National Hockey League hat trick on Sunday. He accomplished the feat in an 8-1 Stars victory over the Chicago Blackhawks at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
Marchment’s first goal put Dallas up 5-1 on the power-play. Tyler Seguin of Brampton, Ontario and defenseman Nils Lundkvist picked up the assists at 12:50 of the second period. Marchment then scored Dallas’s last two goals. He put Dallas up 7-1 with five minutes and 31 seconds left in the game from Matt Duchene of Haliburton, Ontario, and Seguin, and then closed the scoring from Lindell and Lundkvist with one minute and two seconds left in the third period.
Marchment was one of four Stars players to have a multi-point game. The others were Seguin (one goal and two assists for three points), Duchene (two assists), and Sam Steel of Ardrossan, Alberta (one goal and one assist for two points).
In 2023-24, Marchment has 13 goals and 12 assists for 25 points in 35 games. He is a +9 with 32 penalty minutes, four power-play points, one game-winning goal, 69 shots on goal, two faceoff wins, 10 blocked shots, 23 hits, 25 takeaways, and 22 giveaways. The game-winning goal came in a 4-3 Stars win over the Calgary Flames on November 1, as Marchment scored from Duchene and Seguin.
Marchment’s first career NHL hat trick came while with the Florida Panthers. He scored thrice in a 6-2 Panthers win over the Minnesota Wild on February 18, 2022.
With the win, the Stars improved to a record of 22 wins, nine regulation losses and four losses in extra time for 48 points. They are in second place in the Central Division, tied with the Winnipeg Jets, and one point back of the first place Colorado Avalanche.
