Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Abigail Strate of Calgary, Alberta has won the silver medal at a Women’s World Cup ski jumping event in Oberstdorf, Germany on Monday. For Strate, it was her third World Cup career medal and second of the season.
Strate posted a score of 269.4 points. Eva Pinkelnig of Austria won the gold medal with a score of 272.1 points. Eirin Maria Vandal of Norway and Jacqueline Seifriedsberger of Austria shared the bronze medal with a score of 261.6 points. Strate reached the podium by 9.1 points. Nika Prevc of Slovenia finished in fifth place with a score of 260.3 points. The competition took place on a large hill of 137 metres.
In the 2023-24 World Cup women’s ski jumping standings, Strate is in seventh place with 201 points. Josephine Pagnier of France is the World Cup leader with 388 points.
Strate’s first World Cup medal this season came in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany where she finished third on a large hill of 142 metres on December 30, 2023. Strate also won the bronze medal on January 28, 2023 at a World Cup in Hinterzarten, Germany of 111 metres.
The Olympic bronze medal Strate won came in the mixed team ski jumping event at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing. The medal in Oberstdorf will give Strate confidence as she prepares for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
