
Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of Toronto, Ontario set the Canadian record for most points by a player in a single NBA game. He scored 54 points on Wednesday in a 123-114 win over the Utah Jazz.
The previous record was 50 points accomplished by Denver Nuggets point guard Jamal Murray of Kitchener, Ontario thrice. The first two times came in the 2020 NBA Playoffs (game four of the Western Conference quarterfinals, 129-127 Denver loss to Utah and game six of the Western Conference quarterfinals, 119-107 Denver win over Utah), and the third time came in a 120-103 Nuggets win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on February 19, 2021.
In the Thunder win over the Jazz, Gilgeous-Alexander made 17 of 35 field goals, three of 10 three point shots, and 17 of 18 free throws. He had eight rebounds, five assists, three steals, two blocks and was a +9.
In 2024-25, Gilgeous-Alexander is now leading the entire NBA with 32 points per game, and 1345 total points, 473 field goals and 314 free throws. He is also averaging 6.1 assists per game, 5.4 rebounds per game, 2.1 steals per game, and 1.1 blocks per game. Gilgeous-Alexander also has a field goal percentage of .530, three point percentage of .348, and a free throw percentage of .902.
