Samuel Emilus records three touchdown catches in a game

For the second time in his Canadian Football League career, Samuel Emilus of Montreal, Quebec had three touchdowns in a single game. After recording the hat trick on June 16, 2023 in a 45-27 Roughriders loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Emilus accomplished the feat again. This time in a winning note on Saturday, as the Roughriders defeated the British Columbia Lions 31-27.

Emilus had touchdown catches of 11 yards, four yards and six yards from quarterback Trevor Harris. The third touchdown was the game-winning touchdown with 46 seconds left in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring. Emilus had six catches for 91 yards as the Roughriders won their 2026 season opener.

In all, there were four Canadians who recorded a touchdown for a winning team in week two. At Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Thursday, Kiondre Smith of Scarborough, Ontario had touchdown catches of 11 and 23 yards from Bo Levi Mitchell in a 37-27 Tiger-Cats win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Smith had five catches for 92 yards in the game, and has 11 catches for 167 yards for the season, as the Tiger-Cats improved to one win and one loss.

Meanwhile, in Montreal on Friday night in the Alouettes’s 37-30 win over the Toronto Argonauts at Percival Molson Stadium, the Alouettes got touchdowns from wide receiver Tyson Philpot of Delta, British Columbia and defensive back Arthur Hamlin of Ottawa, Ontario.  Philpot had touchdown catches of 45 yards and 56 yards, while Hamlin blocked a punt.

Philpot finished the game with nine catches for 193 yards. On the season, he has 16 catches for 269 yards and three touchdowns as the Alouettes improve to two wins and zero losses. Meanwhile, this was Hamlin’s first touchdown of his career.
