Rouyn-Noranda Huskies advance to 2019 Memorial Cup Final

The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies are in the 2019 Memorial Cup Final.  On Friday at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the Huskies beat the Ontario Hockey League champion Guelph Storm 6-4 in the semifinal. With the win, the Huskies will now face the host team, the Halifax Mooseheads in the championship final on Sunday.

Rafael Harvey-Pinard of Jonquiere, Quebec led the Huskies in scoring with three points, as he notched one goal and two assists. Two other Huskies players had a multi-point game as assistant captain Felix Bibeau of Mercier, Quebec had two goals and Jakub Lauko had two assists. The other three Huskies goal scorers were Alex Beaucage of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Joel Teasdale of Lavaltrie, Quebec and Tyler Hinam of the hockey hotbed of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia.

The game was very offensive minded and was deadlocked at three goals apiece after two periods. The third period is when Bibeau came up big as he scored for the Huskies at 5:40 of the final frame to put Rouyn-Noranda up 4-3 and then scored the game winning goal at 12:33 of the third period to put the Huskies up 5-3. Harvey-Pinard notched assists on both Bibeau goals.

The Huskies have had a lot of success against the Mooseheads this season. In the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Final, the Huskies beat the Mooseheads four games to two and then beat the Mooseheads again 4-3 to close out the round robin portion of the Memorial Cup on Wednesday night.
