The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed offensive lineman Sean McEwen of Calgary, Alberta on Wednesday according to Dave Thomas of sasktoday.ca. McEwen is joining his third Canadian Football League team. He previously played four seasons with the Toronto Argonauts from 2016 to 2019, and five seasons with the Calgary Stampeders from 2020 to 2024.

McEwen played university football with the University of Calgary Dinos for five seasons. In 2015, he was the first round pick, third overall by the Toronto Argonauts. McEwen was only selected offensive linemen Alex Mateas of Ottawa, Ontario (first overall by the Ottawa Redblacks), and Sukh Chungh of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia (second overall by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers). Like McEwen, Chungh played his university football with the Dinos.

The 2017 season was memorable for McEwen. He won the Leo Dandurand Trophy (presented to the best offensive lineman in the CFL’s East Division), was a CFL All-Star, and was part of the Argonauts team that won the 105th Grey Cup at Toronto Dominion Place in Ottawa, Ontario. The Argonauts beat the Stampeders 27-24.

While with the Stampeders, McEwen was a CFL All-Star in 2021 and 2022. Also during his football career, McEwen attended a mini-camp wit the New York Giants. He did not make the National Football League and returned to the Dinos.
