Reid Carruthers of Winnipeg, Manitoba is teaming up with Jason Gunnlaugson of Winnipeg, Manitoba according to Jonathan Brazeau of Rogers Sportsnet on Wednesday. In a newly formed curling team for the 2022-23 season, Carruthers and Gunnlaugson will curl with second Derek Samagalski and lead Connor Njegovan.

It should be noted that Carruthers and Samagalski have curled together since 2014, and Njegovan and Gunnlaugson have been together since 2017. Now there is a question where Mike McEwen, Colin Hodgson, Adam Casey, and Matt Wozniak will play next season. Carruthers and Samagalski are the third and second this season respectively for McEwen, while Casey and Wozniak are the third and second respectively for Gunnlaugson.

Carruthers won the 2011 World Men’s Curling Championship in Regina, Saskatchewan as a second for Jeff Stoughton. Irionically, Carruthers, Gunnlaugson and Samagalski are reuniting as they curled before in 2005-06. Carruthers won the Manitoba Championship as a skip in 2015 and 2018. Gunnlaugson won the Manitoba Championship as a skip in 2020.

In other Manitoba curling news, Chelsea Carey will return to represent the province of the Buffalo. Carey is a native of Winnipeg, and will now team up with third Jolene Campbell, second Liz Fyfe and lead Rachel Erickson. Campbell and Erickson were with Carey last year in Saskatchewan. Fyfe was the second last year for Tracy Fleury. Manitoba is a very deep province when it comes to women’s curling, as there are two other elite squads formed for next year skipped by Canadian Olympic gold medalists Jennifer Jones and Kaitlyn Lawes.
