For the fourth time in her career, Rachel Homan is a champion of the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. On Sunday at Markin MacPhail Centre in Calgary, Alberta, Homan’s Team Ontario squad defeated Manitoba’s Jennifer Jones 5-4 in the final 0f the 2024 Canadian National Women’s Curling Championship.
This was the third time Homan beat Jones at the 2024 Scotties. She was also victorious over Jones on Tuesday in a 7-5 Pool A win, and in the 1-2 game on Saturday, as Homan came through 6-4 in 11 ends.
Homan and Jones both qualified for the Scotties Tournament of Hearts under a new qualification format. They were given wildcard spots based on their results from the 2022-23 Canadian Team Ranking Standings, and as a result did not have to participate in the provincial qualifiers.
It was a strong week for Homan, who won all 11 of her games. This was also the second time in her career that Homan went undefeated at a Scotties Tournament of Hearts. She was also undefeated in 2014 in Montreal, Quebec. In both tournaments, Homan threw a perfect game. With the win, Homan will represent Canada at the 2024 Women’s World Curling Championship in Sydney, Nova Scotia from March 16-24. Switzerland has won the gold medal in eight of the last 11 Women’s World Curling Championships.
