Rachel Homan of Ottawa, Ontario won the 2024 Coop Canadian Open on Sunday. From the Silent Ice Center in Nisku, Alberta, Homan defeated Switzerland’s Silvana Tirinzoni in the final 7-5.

Homan’s most memorable shot in Sunday’s final came in the fourth end. With Tirinzoni leading Homan 3-2 in the fourth end, Tirinzoni was lying a single point as her rock was guarded by a Homan stone. Homan was able to get by the guard, knock out the Tirinzoni stone between two of her own rocks that were counting in the 12 foot. As a result, Homan had a three-ender, and took a 5-3 lead. It would be a lead she would not relinquish on her way to a two point win.

Homan was the only curler who went undefeated throughout the tournament on the women’s side. She won Pool A with a perfect record of four wins and zero losses. Along the way, she beat Japan’s Sayaka Yoshimura 6-4, Alberta’s Selena Sturmay 4-3, Manitoba’s Chelsea Carey 9-3, and Sweden’s Isabella Wrana 5-4. In the quarterfinals, Homan beat Manitoba’s Kerri Einarson 7-5, and in the semifinals, beat South Korea’s Seung-youn Ha 6-2.

This was Homan’s 16th grand slam title, and fourth career Canadian Open. She previously won in 2015 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, in 2019 in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, and in January of 2024 in Red Deer, Alberta.
