We now know the six teams in the 2025 Montana’s Brier in Kelowna, British Columbia. Joining Canada, Alberta and Saskatchewan which qualified prior to the final day of the event, are the two Manitoba teams (skipped by Matt Dunstone and Reid Carruthers), and Nova Scotia’s Owen Purcell.
It was a glorious day for Dunstone, who not only cinched a playoff spot, but the number one seed in Pool A. He improved to a record of seven wins and one loss with a 7-6 win over Team Canada’s Brad Gushue. Both Dunstone and Gushue finished Pool A with identical records, but Dunstone got the number one seed because of the Thursday win. The third seed in Pool A went to Carruthers, who is championship round bound after being at six wins and two losses. Northern Ontario’s John Epping had an identical 6-2 record, but Carruthers got the playoff spot because of his 8-6 win over Epping on Tuesday.
In Pool B, Alberta’s Jacobs had a perfect record of 8-0 after his 9-6 win over Saskatchewan’s Mike McEwen. Purcell ended up being playoff bound with a 7-3 win over Ontario’s Sam Mooiebroek. It has been a great year of curling for Nova Scotia, as Christina Black reached the semifinal game at the Scotties.
