The Pittsburgh Penguins traded right winger Reilly Smith of Mimico, Ontario to the New York Rangers on Canada Day for a fifth round draft pick in the 2025 National Hockey League Entry Draft and a second round pick in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft according to nhl.com. The Rangers are Smith’s sixth NHL franchise. He has previously played two seasons with the Dallas Stars from 2011 to 2013, two seasons with the Boston Bruins from 2013 to 2015, two seasons with the Florida Panthers from 2015 to 2017, six seasons with the Vegas Golden Knights from 2017 to 2023, and one season with the Penguins in 2023-24.
This past season in Pittsburgh, Smith had 13 goals and 27 assists for 40 points in 76 games. He was a +3 with 18 penalty minutes, eight power-play points, three game-winning goals, 152 shots on goal, five faceoff wins, 28 blocked shots, 55 hits, 36 takeaways, and 38 giveaways.
Smith also joins the Rangers as a Stanley Cup champion. He was victorious with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2023. During 22 Stanley Cup Playoff games a year ago, Smith had four goals and 10 assists for 14 points. Smith scored from defenseman Shea Theodore of Langley, British Columbia and William Karlsson at 12:13 of the second period. The Golden Knights went up 4-1 at the time.
