Ontario wins gold in men’s baseball at Canada Games

Team Ontario are the gold medalists in baseball at the 2022 Canada Summer Games. On Saturday from the Welland Baseball Stadium, a half hour outside of Niagara Falls, Ontario trounced Alberta 11-1 in the gold medal game.

In the championship final, Ontario scored 11 of their runs on 12 hits. Third baseman Preston Barr of Windsor, Ontario led Team Ontario with three hits, and recorded the final hit of the game, which put the mercy rule in effect. Barr had a magnificent Canada Games, as he had a batting average of .696 and 15 runs batted in, the most RBIs ever in a single Canada Games.

Saskatchewan meanwhile won the bronze medal in baseball, as they defeated British Columbia 6-5 in the bronze medal game. Ontario won the gold medal despite having three losses in preliminary play.

In basketball, Ontario beat British Columbia 81-70 in the men’s gold medal game. While in the women’s gold medal basketball game, Alberta beat Saskatchewan 71-60. Ontario won gold in men’s beach volleyball, and Quebec won gold in women’s beach volleyball. Meanwhile, Quebec won gold in mixed team tennis.

Team Ontario continues to lead the overall medal standings at the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara Falls. They have won 40 gold medals and 90 medals overall.
