Noah Bowman wins World Cup men’s halfpipe gold in China

Noah Bowman of Calgary, Alberta won a World Cup competition in men’s halfpipe skiing in Secret Garden, China on Saturday. It was one of two medals won by Canadians in halfpipe skiing World Cup competition, as Rachael Karker of Guelph, Ontario won the silver medal in the women’s halfpipe skiing World Cup also on Saturday.

Bowman posted a winning score of 91.5 points, and reached the podium by 4.5 points. Birk Irving of the United States was in fourth place with 87 points. Aaron Blunck of the United States won the silver medal with 90.75 points and Lyman Currier of the United States won the bronze medal with a score of 89.75 points.

Bowman and Blunck currently are tied for the World Cup lead in men’s halfpipe skiing with 240 points. This was Bowman’s ninth career World Cup medal in men’s halfpipe skiing and second gold medal. He previously won in Tignes, France on March 22, 2018.

Karker posted a second place score of 88.75 points. She reached the podium by 5.5 points over Kexin Zhang of China, who was in fourth place with a time of 83.25 points. Valeriya Demidova of Russia won the gold medal with a score of 92.5 points. Fanghui Li of China won the bronze medal with a score of 86.5 points.

Karker is now in fourth place in the women’s World Cup halfpipe skiing standings. She has 140 points. Demidova leads with 205 points.

Karker has now won four World Cup medals in halfpipe skiing. She previously won a silver medal in Secret Garden, China on December 20, 2018, silver medal in Calgary on February 16, 2019 and a bronze medal in Copper Mountain, Colorado on December 13, 2019. The medals for Bowman and Karker will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
