Nick Pivetta begins 2021 Major League Baseball season at 5-0

Nick Pivetta of Victoria, British Columbia has had a fantastic start to begin the 2021 Major League Baseball regular season. The 28-year-old right-hander for the Boston Red Sox has a record of five wins and zero losses after seven starts. In fact, Pivetta leads the American League in wins alongside Steven Matz of the Toronto Blue Jays, Carlos Rodon of the Chicago White Sox, Aaron Civale of the Cleveland Indians, and Eduardo Rodriguez of the Red Sox.

Pivetta improved to a record of five wins and zero losses on Sunday. In a 4-3 Red Sox win over the Baltimore Orioles, Pivetta had a quality start as he only gave up two earned runs in six innings. He walked three batters and had two strikeouts.

Prior to Sunday, Pivetta also beat the Tampa Bay Rays 11-2 on April 5, the Orioles 14-9 on April 11, the New York Mets 1-0 on April 28, and the Detroit Tigers 11-7 on May 4. In 36 2/3 innings of work, Pivetta has given up 24 hits, 13 earned runs, and 22 walks. He also has 35 strikeouts, a 3.19 earned run average, and a 1.26 WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched).

The Red Sox are the American League East leaders at 22 wins and 13 losses. They have a three and a half-game lead on the New York Yankees and Rays.
