Mikael Kingsbury wins gold at a World Cup moguls competition in Calgary

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Mikael Kingsbury of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec won the gold medal in a World Cup men’s moguls competition in Calgary, Alberta on Saturday. Kingsbury, who won the gold medal for Canada in men’s moguls at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, was one of two Canadian Olympic gold medalists to medal this past weekend in Calgary in moguls. In the men’s moguls World Cup in Calgary, Kingsbury had a score of 89.09 points. Walter Wallberg of Sweden won the silver medal with 85.1 points. Dmitriy Reikherd of Kazakhstan won the bronze medal with 84.19 points. Kingsbury reached the podium by 7.19 points over Sacha Theocharis of France, who had a fourth place score of 81.9 points.

In the women’s moguls World Cup in Calgary, Dufour-Lapointe had a third place score of 79.94 points. She reached the podium by 0.05 points over Jakara Anthony of Australia, who had a fourth place score of 79.89 points. Perrine Laffont of France won the gold medal with a score of 81.22 points and Yuliya Galysheva of Kazakhstan won the silver medal with 80.69 points.

Kingsbury leads the World Cup men’s moguls standings with 480 points. He has 115 more points than Ikuma Horishima of Japan, who is second with 365 points. Dufour-Lapointe is third in the women’s World Cup moguls standings with 229 points. Laffont leads with 500 points. The World Cup medals in Calgary for Kingsbury and Dufiur-Lapointe will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
