Michael Soroka records 33rd MLB quality start

Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Michael Soroka of Calgary, Alberta recorded his 33rd Major League Baseball quality start on Sunday. He accomplished the feat in a 5-1 Diamondbacks win over the Washington Nationals at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona.

Soroka pitched seven innings and only gave up one earned run. He gave up three hits, two walks and had six strikeouts. Of the 100 pitches Soroka threw, 63 were strikes and 37 were balls.

This was Soroka’s sixth quality start of the season. Of Soroka’s 33 quality starts, 22 have been with the Atlanta Braves, one has come with the Chicago White Sox, four have come with the Nationals, and six have been with the Diamondbacks.

For the season, Soroka has a record of eight wins and three losses with an earned run average of 3.28. In 13 games and 74 innings pitched, he has given up 68 hits, 27 earned runs, six home runs and 17 walks, to go along with 72 strikeouts, an earned run average of 3.28 and a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 1.15. Soroka is on pace to be a National League All-Star for a second time.

With the win, the Diamondbacks improved to a record of 34 wins and 31 losses. They are in second place in the National League West and lead the San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates by half a game for the final wildcard spot in the National League.
