Matt Dunstone reaches the finals of the 2025 Montana’s Brier

Matt Dunstone of Winnipeg, Manitoba is in the finals of the 2025 Montana’s Brier at Prospera Place in Kelowna, British Columbia. Over the last 48 hours, Dunstone has played some exceptional curling. After finishing in first place in Pool A, Dunstone beat Saskatchewan’s Mike McEwen 6-5 in the page 1-2 qualifier of the championship round on Friday, and then Team Canada’s Brad Gushue 7-4 in the 1-2 page playoff round on Saturday.

Dunstone will now await the winner of Sunday’s semifinal to see who is opponent will be. Even though Gushue lost on Saturday night, he is not eliminated. Team Canada is facing Alberta’s Brad Jacobs in the semifinal in a battle of Canadian Olympic gold medalists. Gushue won gold at the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin, and Jacobs won gold at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. 

Jacobs lost to Gushue 7-4 in the 1-2 game on Friday, in a mistake filled game on both sides. Jacobs then responded with a 10-6 win over Nova Scotia’s Owen Purcell in the 3-4 page qualifier, and then a dramatic 6-5 win over Reid Carruthers of Manitoba in the 3-4 game on Saturday. In the other playoff game, Carruthers beat McEwen 6-4 in one of the two 3-4 qualifier games.

Dunstone reached the final of the 2023 Brier in London. However, he lost 7-5 to Gushue.
