Mark Scheifele records his seventh career NHL hat trick

Winnipeg Jets captain Mark Scheifele of Kitchener, Ontario notched his seventh career National Hockey League hat trick. He accomplished the feat in a 4-2 Jets win over the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday.

Scheifele scored his first goal at 13:52 on the power-play from Josh Morrissey of Calgary, Alberta, and Kyle Connor to tie the game at one goal apiece. He then put the Jets up 3-1 with a power-play marker from Morrissey and Connor with three seconds left in the second period. Schiefele’s hat trick came with 28 seconds left in the third period from Adam Lowry to close out the scoring and give the Jets a 4-2 win.

This is Scheifele’s second hat trick this season. He also scored thrice in a 6-5 Jets loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on December 23. Scheifele’s other five hat tricks in his career came in a 4-2 Jets win over the Montreal Canadiens on March 5, 2016, in a 5-2 Jets win over the Dallas Stars on November 2, 2017, in a 5-1 Jets win over the Ottawa Senators on February 20, 2020, in a 8-4 Jets win over the New Jersey Devils on December 3, 2021 and in a 6-3 Jets win over the Minnesota Wild on February 16, 2022.

Scheifele has 23 goals and eight assists for 31 points in 36 games. He is a -1 with 28 penalty minutes, 10 power-play points, three game winning goals, 102 shots on goal, 250 faceoff wins, 15 blocked shots, 21 hits, 32 takeaways, and 18 giveaways.

The Jets are in second place in the Central Division. They have a record of 22 wins, 13 regulation losses and one loss in extra time for 45 points.
